Aernschd Born

*1949

Aenschd Born was born in Zurich and now lives in Reinach

The thoughtful song of the one who has

He had eyes, but didn't see anything
and yet he wasn't blind

He had ears, but he didn't listen
and yet he was not deaf

He had muscles, and he didn't move
and yet he was not lame

He had a life and he didn't live
and yet he was not dead

He had a heart ...

Life

In the late 1960s during his apprenticeship as a reproduction photographer he wrote his first songs. As a political activist and opponent to nuclear power, he was involved in occupying the construction site for the Kaiseraugst nuclear power plant in the mid-1970s and became known as the "house singer" of the Swiss anti-nuclear movement in the wake of media reports surrounding the occupation. Until the end of 2014, he was the managing director of the association Nie wieder Atomkraftwerke (NWA) Schweiz, which promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency and opposes nuclear power plants; he then curated the "Dokumentationsstelle Atomfreie Schweiz", which aims to document regional and national resistance to nuclear power plants.

For his double LP Aendschtation Paradies, Aernschd Born was awarded the German cabaret prize in the chanson genre in 1980.

Born works as a singer-songwriter, lyricist and concept developer. He wrote numerous stage plays, radio plays and books as well as adventure novels for children in dialect and in standard German. He was co-founder and president of LiederLobby Schweiz. In Basel he ran the Kulturpavillon, a center for cultural encounters, together with his Berlin-based wife Barbara Preusler.

Born considers himself as an artist viewing society critically. He explained (in 2019) in an interview with the left-wing daily Junge Welt that even "Marx and Engels," whom he paid tribute to with quotes on his guitar case, "explain to me what's happening today."

Born travels the country solo with readings or musically with the BORN Band Basel. He writes stage programs and songs, for theater performances and for various artists. As a cultural duo with his partner Barbara Preusler he develops and produces cultural projects such as the "Gipfeltreffen" - Talk & Culture.
